CONWY Borough advanced to the last eight of the FAW Trophy after a thrilling 5-4 extra time win over Llanfair United.

The Tangerines got off to the best possible start and took the lead after just one minute when Jamie Roberts burst clear and finished well, but they were pegged back moments later when Andrew Roberts levelled matters with three gone.

Things then took a turn for the worse for the home side as United went ahead for the first time courtesy of a Matt Dunford effort, but Boro equalised immediately after the break through Matty Hughes on 48.

Gareth Thomas’ side thought they had booked themselves a place in the hat on 87 minutes when Iolo Hughes looked to have won it at the death, but they shot themselves in the foot immediately following the restart which resulted in Gethin Stephens sending the game into extra time.

The away side drew first blood when Roberts bagged his brace on 105 minutes, but this time it was the turn of the hosts to hit back instantly when Jack Hoult steered home after 107.

The turning point in the contest arrived on 112 minutes and it was the home side who went in-front once again when Hughes found the target for the second time, and despite having to withstand some heavy pressure late on the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One leaders held on for a memorable cup victory.
