A TALENTED young athlete turned in a stunning effort at a regional meet.

Jonathan Osbourne, a Year 7 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, came away with a pair of medals from the North Wales Indoor Regional Athletics Championships, which were held in Deeside on Saturday, January 13.

The 11-year-old Colwyn Bay Athletics Club member produced a memorable performance in the long jump event to secure gold, and he is now the proud holder of both indoor and outdoor titles for the North Wales region.

He swiftly followed this up with his second podium visit of the day when he secured bronze in the long jump event, and the academic and sports scholar also ran a personal best in the 60-metre sprint but narrowly missed out on a medal despite his excellent time.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “This was another highly encouraging competition for Jonathan which bodes very well for the season ahead.

“He works incredibly hard on his development with our dedicated Strength and Conditioning team, which involves early mornings and impressive dedication which he has embraced fully.

“Jonathan’s natural talent is there for all to see and it is fantastic to see his hard work paying off in a multitude of areas here at Rydal Penrhos. His attitude is exceptional and this will serve him very well in the coming months as he goes in pursuit of further honours.”
