TWO hockey stars at a Colwyn Bay school represented the region at a prominent indoor event.

Jacob Heaton-Rue and Tegid Goodman-Jones, Year 11 and 10 pupils at Rydal Penrhos, were part of the North Wales squad that competed at an Indoor Hockey Festival held at the Copper Box in Queen Elizabeth Park, London, which hosted the 2012 Olympics.

This was the first time that a side from Wales had competed at the seven-a-side showcase, which featured more than 116 teams from around the country across various age categories.

They managed to come away from the tournament with a great deal of credit despite their inexperience, with tournament organisers “genuinely impressed with the skill level” displayed throughout the North Wales squad.

This is the latest in a series of impressive achievements from the duo, who have shone in a wide range of areas since they both joined Rydal Penrhos last year.

Tegid is a talented vocalist who has secured a host of national competition wins, while Jacob is a Hockey Wales international and national championship winner with the school’s U16 squad.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Both Jacob and Tegid should be very proud of the way they acquitted themselves as part of the regional squad, and playing at such a fantastic venue against high quality opposition is another huge boost for their overall development.

“We have had a great deal of success with our Boys’ Hockey sides in recent years, and with talent such and Tegid and Jacob we are confident that it is going to be another outstanding season.”
