FRANCE claimed the women’s Six Nations title with a grand slam after a 38-3 victory over Wales at Stadiwm Zip World in Colwyn Bay.

The all-conquering side, who trained at nearby Rydal Penrhos School prior to the clash, maintained their perfect record in convincing fashion to emerge victorious in what was a one-sided affair for the majority of the contest.

The visitors took held the advantage after the opening exchanges thanks to early tries from half-backs Pauline Bourdon and Caroline Drouin, and things got even worse for the Welsh soon after when flanker Alisha Butchers was forced off through injury.

Robyn Wilkins kicked a penalty that cut France's advantage to 11 points in what proved to be the home side’s only points of the evening, with talented full-back Jessy Tremouliere crossing the white wash in fine style just before the half-time whistle.

After the interval saw the French continue to stamp their authority on proceedings, and they were awarded a penalty try after Wales wing Jasmine Joyce was sin-binned for tackling a player off the ball.

The away side took full advantage of their numerical superiority as hooker Agathe Sochat and centre Carla Neissen added further scores, with Tremouliere kicking three conversions to round off the scoring and secure a notable achievement from the tournament.

The defeat marked a disappointing end to the competition for Wales, who had just one win to show for their efforts after downing Scotland in the opening series of fixtures.
