CONTINUITY is the order of the day for Colwyn Bay as they look to continue to establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with.

The Liverpool and District Cricket League Premier Division side had another fabulous season in the top flight under skipper Sion Morris, where they finished in a very creditable fourth spot and also reached the Welsh Cup final during a memorable campaign.

Overseas star Rumesh Buddika will not be returning to Penrhyn Avenue for the forthcoming fixtures due to his contact with the Sri Lankan Cricket Board, but there is plenty of talent within the squad to ensure that their progress will not be hampered by this small setback.

As demonstrated last season, the Bay set-up is littered with match-winners who are capable of winning a game on their own, and in Zak Gidlow they have a steady presence within the top order who possesses a wide range of classy shots at his disposal.

The batsman averaged 40.8 from his 27 times at the crease last term, with four centuries and a top score of 112, and Gidlow was supported impressively by Bay captain, who continues to be such an influence on-and-off the field across all levels at the club.

All-rounder Adam Campion is another who will be counted upon to produce the goods when it matters during the season, while Will Higginson had an enormously successful first year with the Bay and will be hoping for more of the same this time around.

Although they have also lost Jordan Evans, Morris’ men received a huge boost with the news that Pat Leach will be travelling from his South Wales home to lend his support to the cause.

Leach, who is the brother of RGC senior squad member Josh, is a devastating batsman when he is firing on all cylinders, and they will also have another veteran presence to call upon in the form of spinner Paul Jenkins.

The former skipper was unplayable at times last season and helped himself to 75 wickets at an average of just 18, and this provided consistent wickets at one end of the crease that were a huge asset to the likes of Ryan Holtby and Gareth Goodson at the other end.

With so much quality operating within the Premier Division repeating last season’s high finish will not be easy, and the likes of Ormskirk, Bootle and Rainhill sure to be on the hunt for the championship in what is set to be another fascinating campaign from start-to-finish.

Bay have kept the majority of their squad together and this has brought exceptional results in recent years, and Morris will be hoping that this continues both during the season ahead and in the years to come.
