LLANDUDNO closed out their JD Welsh Premier League home fixtures with a 3-2 reverse to Barry Town United.

Iwan Williams’ side were left rueing a host of missed opportunities which was the catalyst behind their downfall, and Tudno will be aiming to end their top flight season on a high when they travel to relegated basement dwellers Prestatyn Town on Friday (7.30pm).

The home side started well and Lee Thomas almost marked his final home appearance after 15 years at the club with a goal when he found the net on 10 minutes, but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Striker Marc Williams went close on two occasions throughout the first period but was unable to convert his opportunities, and the Europa League playoff side began to impose themselves after the break and went ahead on 53 minutes when Jonathan Hood finished well.

This provoked a strong response from the hosts, who levelled matters on the hour mark when an effort from Williams was diverted into his own net by Macaulay Southam.

United dusted themselves off and regained their advantage on 66 minutes thanks to a well-worked goal from James Saddler, while at the other end Thomas spurned a fantastic chance to restore parity to the scoreline when his free header flashed wide.

The miss proved to be crucial as the away side doubled their advantage thanks to Hood’s second of the afternoon on 77 minutes, but Tudno showed some fight in the closing stages and ensured a nervy end to proceedings when Danny Taylor halved the deficit on 87.

A frantic finish saw visiting custodian Mike Jones pull off a phenomenal save from a Toby Jones free-kick, and despite constant pressure in the closing stages the home side were unable to claim a share of the spoils.
