IT has been another outstanding year in the Huws Gray Alliance, which further demonstrated the amount of quality operating within the Welsh pyramid’s second tier.

Sports reporter Dean Jones has been at the heart of all our coverage and he bring you his end of season awards below:

Player of the Season: Darren Thomas (Caernarfon Town)

Not much more needs to be said about the contribution made by the man dubbed the ‘Cofi Messi’, and Thomas will now get to finally showcase his skills for his hometown club in the top flight.

His ability on the ball is second-to-none and there are not many defenders that can handle him when he is firing on all cylinders, and while next season will present different challenges it would not be surprise at all to see him thrive and lead the Canaries to a strong debut season in the WPL.

Manager of the Season: Eddie Maurice-Jones (Denbigh Town)

What Maurice-Jones has been able to accomplish at Denbigh this season has been nothing short of extraordinary, and while this award could have easily gone to Cofis’ boss Sean Eardley, leading Town to the highest league finish in their history is something that also warrants this award.

The young manager took a big gamble when he left his talented Gresford Athletic side to take over at the helm during a period of transition for the club, but he has been proven right with the move and everyone associated with the club can be extremely encouraged at the direction they are heading in.

Young player of the Year: Craig Pritchard (Denbigh Town)

Widely regarded as one of the brightest young prospects anywhere in the region, Pritchard has demonstrated his class once again and has been a driving force behind everything good at Central Park this season.

His ability to conjure something out of nothing has seen him emerge as one of the second tier’s leading lights, and the sky is the limit in terms of what he can achieve in the future if he continues to progress at his current rate.

Surprise Package of the Season: Guilsfield FC

Despite not having the same budget as clubs with bigger reputations, the Guils’ have managed to punch well above their weight once again to finish fourth in the standings.

They remain one of the most resolute sides operating within the HGA and with hotshot Asa Hamilton they had a constant physical threat at the other end of the park, and it is a testament to their backroom staff and quality recruitment that they can continue to perform at such a high level on an almost constant basis.

Goalkeeper of the Season: Rory Crowther (Rhyl)

While the Lilywhites may have struggled to achieve their pre-season objectives, the same cannot be said for Crowther, who was an inspirational presence for the Lilies for the majority of the campaign.

His shot-stopping ability is matched by his commanding presence in the area, and there is no telling how many points he saved his side on their way to sixth spot.

Defender of the Season: Steve Thomas (Holywell Town)

The Wellmen skipper has been at his energetic best during another very impressive season at Halkyn Road, which will be the last under departing manager Johnny Haseldin.

He has provided Town with a consistent presence who also possesses a great amount of forward prowess, and the fan-favourite can be enormously proud of his outstanding efforts during a series of very difficult fixtures in an ultra-competitive division.

Midfielder of the Season: Nathan Craig (Caernarfon Town)

The Cofis’ talisman has been at his brilliant best once again, and he will soon be operating in a division that is more befitting of his supreme talents.

He has emerged as a superb leader with a great deal of influence on the squad, and to score 18 league goals if further proof of his prowess from dead ball situations.

Craig is going to be needed more than ever as the Canaries prepare for life in the WPL, and he is another with strong roots to the club that has a fierce desire for them to succeed.

Striker of the Season: Llyr Morris (Ruthin Town)

Morris is going to one of the most sought-after players in the region this summer thanks to his outstanding record in front of goal, and manager Chris Williams can be hugely proud of the amount of progression his prized asset has shown under his leadership.

He is a constant nightmare for defender that is reflected in his 28 league goals, something which earned him the top scorer crown for a side that ended the season in mid table.

Team to Watch: Flint Town United

The Silkmen promise to be a force to be reckoned with next season thanks to the fantastic work being done by the management team of Niall McGuinness and Aden Shannon, who have enjoyed a phenomenal end to the campaign that saw them clinch the Huws Gray Cup.

Another busy summer of changes are undoubtedly afoot, but McGuinness has been very shrewd in the transfer market with arrivals such as form Prestatyn Town defender Jack Lewis, so it would be a surprise if United were not back amongst the challenger next time around.
