CONWY Borough have received a boost with the news that manager Gareth Thomas has agreed to stay on at the club.

The Tangerines’ boss enjoying a superb campaign with the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One champions, who managed to secure promotion to the Huws Gray Alliance at the first opportunity and achieve a memorable treble in the process.

Thomas is keen to carry on the “long-term plan of developing the club”, and is looking to keep the majority of the squad intact as they prepare to embark on a hugely competitive second tier next term.

He said: “We hope to give the majority of the current squad an opportunity to continue in the Cymru Alliance but also realise we will need to recruit a few players due to the demands and strength of the league.

“We are well aware of the task ahead of us and are looking forward to the challenge.

“We hope to announce some signings in the near future and will be finalising the pre-season programme shortly.”

The club has already announced three friendly fixtures to ready them for the new campaign, with Caernarfon Town, Whitchurch Alport and Runcorn Town all confirmed for July dates, with more expected to be announced in the coming days.

Also remaining at Y Morfa are assistant Alun Winstanley and backroom staff member Colin Edwards, while Colin Davies has stepped down from his role as goalkeeping coach.

Chairman Chris Wilton, added: “After such a fantastic season we were very keen to get Perry and his staff on-board for challenge in the Cymru Alliance.

“Colin Davies has stood down from his role as goalkeeping coach to concentrate on off-field matters and we anticipate additions to the staff in the near future. I am sure on the pitch, Perry will retain talent from last season and look to develop our younger players but will also look strengthen the squad for the step up into Tier Two.”
