LLANRWST claimed derby bragging rights with a comfortable eight-wicket home success over North Wales Cricket League Division One rivals Conwy.

The visitors got off to a poor start with Andrew Davies (9) and skipper Rajjenu Britto (18) both falling at the hands of Jack Hughes, while Evan Williams made 21 before he was trapped lbw by Scott Thomas.

Alwyn Williams then turned the game on its head with the wickets of Jonathan Davies (24), wicketkeeper Graham Heath (3) and Allan Senior (3), and he also despatched Nick Davies (17) on his way to outstanding figures of 4-11.

He was assisted at the other end by Trefor Williams, who took two victims for the loss of 17 runs as the away side were all out for 109 after 46 overs.

Despite losing Trefor Williams (7) to a Graham Meredith early on, a superb knock from Rwsters’ wicketkeeper and opening batsman Aron Hughes ensured the hosts reached their required total with minimal fuss, making an unbeaten 56 to lead his side to glory.

Veteran Nathan Jones helped the scoreboard with 20, while captain Aled Hughes also looked in good form with 17 not out as the home side reached their required total for the loss of two wickets after 30 overs at the crease.

Llanrwst now occupy fifth spot as they prepare to welcome Dolgellau on Saturday, while basement dwellers Conwy travel to Pontblyddyn.
