MOCHDRE turned in another polished performance to come away with a four-wicket victory at Abergele.

The North Wales Cricket League Division One title hopefuls continued their impressive run of recent results to move up to second place in the standings, and they currently sit 17 points behind Bethesda with a game in hand.

The home side got off to a moderate start thanks to the opening duo of Ben Garnett and wicketkeeper Gareth Edwards, who made 14 and 15 respectively before they were both dismissed by visiting skipper Matty Humphreys.

The same bowler was also on hand to despatch Karl Higgins (5) and David Moulson (1) to end a superb 12 over spell on figures of 4-20 to put his side in the ascendancy.

He was aided at the other end by Kyle Brown, who sent Lewis Tolond (11), skipper Ed Rooney (3) and Kyle Walker (6) back to the pavilion to end on 3-12, while Joe Chaplin removed the dangerous David Williams for just two as the hosts collapsed to 82 all out from 36 overs at the crease.

Opening batsmen James French and Gareth Davies both made 19 before they were ousted by Moulson and Walker, with the latter ensuring a nervy end to proceedings with the quick-fire wickets of Humphreys (1) and Adam Jones (0) soon after to finish on 3-17 from his six-over spell.

Mouslon took his tally to 2-22 with the removal of Chaplin for 13, but Mike Humphreys (6*) and Aamer Sardar managed to see out the remainder of the innings in comfortable fashion to ensure the promotion candidates reached their target after 36 overs.

Humphreys’ men will look to continue their positive momentum when they host Mold on Saturday, and there was further success in the form of their second unit as they sealed a 117-run triumph over Carmel and District.
