MOCHDRE suffered a blow to their North Wales Cricket League Division One promotion hopes as they fell to a 42-run loss at Llay Welfare.

The home side set a target of 206-9 from their 50 overs, with valuable contributions from skipper Nathan Humphreys (38), Jack Parry (37) and David Phennah (35) contributing significantly to their time at the crease.

Kyle Brown was the pick of the visiting bowlers, picking up three wickets in the form of Tom Crewe (19), Tom Parry (3) and Findlay Williams (11) on his way to figures of 3-25, with Russ Boswell and captain Matthew Humphreys picking up a pair of scalps apiece for the combined expense of 67 runs.

The away side looked to be well on their way to success thanks to outstanding knocks from Humphreys and Stewart Williams, who hit 51 and 47 respectively to put them in a commanding position early.

Their strong effort was not replicated by the rest of the batting order, with Mike Humphreys’ 16 the only promising innings thereafter as they were skittled for 164 in reply.

The result leaves Mochdre in fourth spot and 21 points behind Bethesda ahead of their home clash with Bersham on Saturday, July 7.
