TWO Colwyn Bay youngsters have received a call-up to a regional hockey squad after an impressive campaign.

Ariana Milligan and Eve Durrans, Year 7 pupils at Rydal Penrhos School, have been selected to the North Wales U13 Girls’ Hockey squad after successfully coming through the assessment process.

The duo were put forward for the trials in Bala by their coaches at Colwyn Bay Hockey Club, where they have been training throughout the season.

They also developed their skills considerably as part of the school’s sports scholarship programme, in addition to training with the regional development squad on Thursday evenings.

Both Ariana and Eve will now look to make a significant contribution to the squad in the coming months ahead of a busy series of fixtures, which start with a high-profile tournament in Manchester this month.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “Ariana and Eve have worked incredibly hard during school and for Colwyn Bay to achieve this regional squad selection, and both are thoroughly deserving of their respective inclusions.

“Their progress and achievements are a testament not only to their talent and commitment, but also a vindication of the work being put in by staff to develop and improve each aspiring athlete at Rydal Penrhos to fulfil their potential.

“This has brought some significant accolades over the course of the current academic year, and we wish Ariana and Eve the very best of luck as they look to establish themselves within the set-up in the coming weeks.”
