FORMER Llandudno captain Tom Dix has received an outpouring of support after suffering a horrific injury.

The talented midfielder was turning out for new club Flint Town United in their first friendly fixture against Brymbo on Saturday, with the player suffering a significant leg break that is currently being examined at a regional hospital.

A club statement confirmed that the break was “very severe” adding that “we very much hope he will recover successfully to continue his football career”.

Dix joined the Silkmen after a stunning spell as skipper of Tudno, where he led them to a first ever promotion to the JD Welsh Premier League with a Huws Gray Alliance title victory during one of the finest seasons in the club’s rich history.

He was a standout performer in their debut third place finish in the top flight, which led to Europa League qualification and a landmark tie against Swedish giants IFK Goteborg.

The midfielder recently joined the ambitious Silkmen ahead of their expected tilt at the second tier championship alongside former Tudno star Mike Williams, and the friendly was subsequently abandoned following the injury.

United manager Niall McGuinness, said: Absolutely devastated after this morning. One of the worst things I’ve witnessed in football, made worse when it happens to one of your own players.

“My thoughts are with Dixie and his family. Myself and everyone at Flint Town United will be doing everything we can to support his family.”

Caernarfon Town manager Sean Eardley, who worked with Dix during a hugely successful spell at Tudno, added: “I am devastated for my good mate. I am only a phone call away if he needs anything and I am sure the good people at Flint will have his back too.”

Clubs and players from across the region have been sending their good will messages to Dix via social media site Twitter after hearing the devastating news.
