MOCHDRE were dealt another blow in their pursuit of promotion with a narrow four-run home loss to North Wales Cricket League Division One title hopefuls Bersham.

The in-form visitors posted a total of 212-7 from their 50 overs at the crease, with skipper Suresh Koswaththage leading the way with an impressive knock of 78.

He was ably assisted at the other end by Nuwan Amarakoon and Phillip Young, who contributed 45 and 30 respectively, with Russ Boswell the pick of the home bowlers after recording two wickets for the loss of 17 runs.

Opener James French put the hosts in a commanding position with a stylish innings before he was clean bowled by Amith Thilkarathne on 66, and things got even better thanks to a half century knock of 51 from Gareth Davies.

An unbeaten 21 from Aamer Sardar put them within touching distance of victory heading into the final over, but they were unable to get the required runs needed during the closing stages and finished on 208-9.

Teenage sensation Owen Davies was the star of the show for Mochdre’s second unit as they recorded a 57-run success at Hawarden Park.

The 15-year-old was in scintillating form throughout his time in the middle, producing an innings that defied his tender age to finish the day unbeaten on 166 from just 105 balls, including no fewer than 23 boundaries.

Ben Ashworth and Daniel Phillips both took three wickets apiece for the away side to secure the notable triumph.
