CONWY remain rooted to the North Wales Cricket League Division One basement thanks to a 122-run defeat at Dolgellau.

The home side posted an impressive total of 255 all out from 48 overs in the middle, with Greg Smithies and Phil Leeds both hitting half centuries before eventually being removed from the crease on 55 and 53 respectively.

Other valuable contributions came from wicketkeeper Robert Humphreys (33) and Sam Williams, who hit an unbeaten 24 from just 23 deliveries late on.

Visiting skipper Rajjenu Britto was the pick of the bowlers, helping himself to four wickets at the expense of 65 runs, with Vaughan Williams and Graham Meredith both claiming a pair of scalps apiece.

Britto continued his excellent form on the day with an outstanding batting display, but he was ousted by a Phil Leeds strike at a crucial stage of the innings after contributing 67 to his side’s cause.

This performance was not replicated by the rest of the batting order, with only Evan Williams (25) making it into double figures as they mustered 133 in reply.

The result leaves Conwy 33 points adrift of safety ahead of their difficult trip to title-chasing Bersham on Saturday.
