LLANDUDNO continued their pre-season fixtures ahead of the new JD Welsh Premier League season with a 0-0 home draw with 1874 Northwich.

Iwan Williams’ men missed a host of opportunities throughout their friendly fixtures as tempers flared during a mass melee on the half hour mark that involved both sets of players.

The home side got off to a good start and almost went ahead on 12 minutes when Toby Jones forced a smart save from the visiting custodian following good approach play from recent signing Damian Ketley.

More good link-up play from Ketley and Jones presented a chance to midfield talisman Danny Hughes after 14 minutes, but his effort flew narrowly over from just outside the penalty area.

The game threatened to spill out of control thanks to some robust challenges midway through the half, which resulted in the huge altercation that stopped play for several minutes and resulted in a number of enforced substitutions.

Tudno had a golden chance to open the scoring on 41 minutes when striker Dan Westwood latched on to a weak back pass, but he steered his effort wide with only the keeper to beat.

The away side came out with a renewed sense of purpose after the break and almost took the lead but for some outstanding defending from Michael Pearson and some smart goalkeeping from brother Shaun, with Westwood again spurning a chance just after the hour mark after some neat approach play from Hughes.

Pearson was called into action once again on 69 minutes with a superb stop to deny the hosts, and at the other end Osian Jones, Mike Pearson and Joe Carey all failed to make the most of the chances presented to them late on to ensure both sides had something to show for their efforts.
