CONWY remain rooted to the North Wales Cricket League Division One basement after a 43-run home loss to Mold.

The visitors set a target of 156 all out from their 39 overs at the crease, with Stan Senior in exceptional form with the ball after securing six wickets for the loss of just 28 runs.

This included the prized scalp of top scorer Thomas North for 62, with other scores of note coming from John Crane (26), Wes Gillam (16) and Isaac Allen (16).

Vaughan Williams ably assisted at the other end with a pair of scalps at the expense of 31 runs, with Graham Meredith taking the other wicket in the form of away captain Richard Crane for a duck.

Skipper Rajjenu Britto got the hosts off to a moderate start with a knock of 19 before he was caught off a Kyle Van Der Kooij delivery, but only Evan Williams (19) made it into double figures thereafter as the struggling side collapsed to 113 all out in reply.

Richard Deniz was the pick of the visiting bowlers, claiming a five-wicket haul for the loss of 21 runs, with Van Der Kooij ending a nine-over spell on 2-20.

The result leaves Conwy 30 points adrift of safety, and things do not get any easier this Saturday when Britto’s men travel to long-time Division One leaders Bethesda, who come into the game on the back of a shock loss at Llanrwst.

A half century from Nick Price was not enough to prevent Conwy’s second unit from falling to a nine-wicket defeat at North Wales 2nd XI League West Division table toppers St Asaph.
