HOLYHEAD Hotspur manager Darren Garmey has outlined his ambitions ahead of his first season at the helm.

The Holy Islanders have made significant changes to their backroom staff ahead of the upcoming Huws Gray Alliance campaign, with popular figure Garmey already making his presence felt during the summer with a series of “intense” training sessions and the signings of goalkeeper Carl Jones, defender Caio Hywel, Jamie Roberts and Llangefni Town sensation Harry Galeotti.

Garmey, said: “So far our preparations are going really well. The sessions have been intense, and the players have worked really hard.

“Myself and Nick (Dumbarton) are looking to change a few things in regards to our playing style so the sessions are just as important as the games at this stage.

“We are looking to be up there with the fittest sides in the league this year and that will be the basis on which we build this team.”

Early indications show that the new methods are paying off, with Spurs securing a 3-0 success over Bodedern Athletic thanks to goals from Chris Jones, Dean Garmey and John Littlemore.

Garmey is looking for his side to improve on a disappointing campaign last term under Campbell Harrison, where they finished in the lower echelons of the standings despite possessing a wealth of talent within their set-up. “I am enjoying my new role as manager and have had a lot of support from the rest of the staff and the committee who have been great and continue to work hard to improve every aspect of the club,” he added.

“Our aim this year will be to improve on last season and find more consistency in our performances as well as improving our discipline. If these targets can be achieved, then I’m sure we will have a good season in what is sure to be the best Cymru Alliance line-up to date.”
