CONWY Borough turned in their finest performance of the pre-season to date with a thumping 5-1 home rout over Runcorn Town.
The Tangerines are in the final stages of preparation ahead of their return to the Huws Gray Alliance following a memorable treble-winning campaign that saw them scoop the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One crown, in addition to the Cookson Cup and FAW Trophy.
Much will depend on the form of prolific striker Corrig McGonigle this season, and the talented forward looks to be hitting the ground running and was in mesmerising form throughout the first period, netting four times during the period thanks to a series of impressive finishes.
The away side, who featured former Rhyl, Caernarfon Town and Holywell Town striker Steve Lewis in their line-up, managed to pull a goal back just before the break when a prolonged spell of possession resulted in Adam Reid hitting the target.
Boro’ stopper Antoni Sarnowski saved a Paul McManus penalty shortly after the interval to keep the cushion to three, before Bryan Roberts completed another fine afternoon at the office with a fine strike to add a fifth.
Manager Gareth Thomas, said: “It’s another game where the lads got minutes and it was pleasing to see some of the passages of play.
“We still have plenty to work on as the season gets nearer but the lads are working hard and we can move on to the next game on Thursday.”
Thomas’ men also secured a 5-0 triumph over FC Nomads last week, with a brace from Sean McCaffrey and Dean Seager putting them three-up within the opening half hour.
Powerful forward Cory Williams produced a superb individual display in the second period and found the net twice to complete the rout.
