LLANRWST caused a huge stir at the North Wales Cricket League Division One summit with a narrow one-wicket home success over Bersham.

The Rwsters restricted the promotion hopefuls to 156 all out from 47 overs at the crease, with Alwyn Williams producing a devastating spell to claim the wickets of skipper Suresh Koswaththage (42), Phil Young (4), Jonath David (30), Hari Garikapogula (0) and Lewis Derwant (2) on his way to figures of 5-27.

He was ably assisted at the other end by Scott Thomas, who took out the dangerous duo of Nuwan Amarakoon and Amith Thilakarathne for 15 and 19 respectively to end the day on 2-28, with Trefor Williams also helping himself to three scalps at the expense of 38 runs.

The hosts’ run chase got off to a moderate start thanks to double-figure scores from Thomas (20), Alwyn Williams (23) and Trefor Williams (13), and a standout knock of 45 from Alex Evans steadied the ship after they lost Huws Williams (6) and Nathan Jones (6) cheaply.

Evans was aided at the other end of the crease by wicketkeeper Joseph Guy who hit an unbeaten 25 to ensure the home side got over the line on the final ball of the contest and with one wicket to spare.

The result moves Llanrwst eight points clear of the drop zone ahead of their home clash with Mold on August 18.
