MOCHDRE remain in the North Wales Cricket League Division One title thanks to a 22-run victory at Mold.

A standout innings from Stewart Williams ensured the away side set a target of 157-9 from their 50 overs in the middle, with the opener smashing nine boundaries on his way to 68from 122 deliveries before he was eventually caught off a Richard Crane strike.

Other double-figure scores of note came from Dan Miller (17), skipper Matty Humphreys (14), Russ Boswell (15) and Kyle Brown (11*), with Thomas North the pick of the home bowlers with figures of 4-24.

The visitors got off to a great start with the ball with Boswell disposing of Crane (5) and Duane Williams (12) early on, before Humphreys took over proceedings by claiming the scalps of Isaac Allen (5), John Crane (1), Wes Gillam (4) and Lewis Pringle (14) to end a sensational ten-over spell with figures of 4-35.

This proved to be the difference between the two sides, with Williams helping himself to a pair of lower order wickets for 15 runs as the home side made 135 all out in reply.

Humphreys’ side are now in fourth spot and 14 points behind new Division One leaders Pontblyddyn ahead of their next league outing at struggling Conwy on August 18.
