CONWY moved off the North Wales Cricket League Division One’s bottom spot after a 34-run home win over new basement dwellers Abergele.

The hosts set a modest target of 115 all out from 40 overs at the crease, with Gele bowler Lewis Tolond putting them to the sword throughout to help himself to four wickets for the loss of 16 runs.

Another contribution of note came from David Moulson, who took the scalps of David Wilkinson (8), wicketkeeper Graham Heath (1) and Stan Senior (1) to end the day with figures of 3-18, but Vaughan Williams produced some crucial runs from the number 11 position before he was caught off a Tolond delivery on 24.

Home bowler Graham Meredith wasted no time in making an impact with the new ball be removing the opening pair of Gareth Edwards (0) and Iwan Thomas (1) in quick succession, and he also disposed of Gele skipper Ed Rooney (5), Nalin Wadhwa (0), David Moulson (13) and Tolond (4) on his way to sensational figures of 6-30 from a 12-over spell.

This proved to be the difference between the two sides, with only Jain Sebastien (11) and Tom Sharp (14*) making it into double-figures thereafter as the visitors were skittled for 81 all out in reply.

Rajjenu Britto’s men are now 27 points adrift of safety as they enjoy a weekend off before hosting title chasing Mochdre on August 18.
