LLANDUDNO continued their preparations ahead of the new JD Welsh Premier League season with a 1-0 victory at Porthmadog.

Iwan Williams’ men accepted a late invitation to take on the Huws Gray Alliance outfit for the annual Pathfinders’ Cup, which proved to be another fantastic between two sides that have lofty ambitions heading into the new campaign.

A cagey opening to the first period brought little in the way of chances, with the lively Julian Williams almost putting the home side ahead with two fine efforts throughout the first period.

After the break saw Tudno score what proved to be the only goal of the game after 55 minutes when former Port forward John Owen burst clear and finished well following a prolonged spell of possession.

The visitors managed to hold on to their lead in comfortable fashion to get their hands on the friendly cup, and they kick-off their top flight campaign on Friday when they visit Aberystwyth Town (7.45pm).

The club also confirmed that striker Damian Ketley has departed for Huws Gray Alliance side Holywell Town after initially arriving at the Giant Hospitality Stadium earlier this summer.

The physical ex-Prestatyn Town star was given the chance to prove himself again in the top flight but found chances limited given the amount of quality available to the Tudno management team, which prompted his move to Halkyn Road where he is expected to play a more significant role in the second tier.

Town boss Gareth Sudlow, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to get Damo in with us. As our fans would of seen today (against Llandudno Junction), his work rate is second to none and it’s infectious to all the other lads in the team.

“His quality on and off the ball is brilliant and I really think he will take us on to the next level now.”
