BODEDERN Athletic crashed out of the JD Welsh Cup at the first qualifying stage after a 2-1 home loss at the hands of Aberffraw.

The newly promoted Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One side have enjoyed a fine start to the campaign but were unable to recover from a poor start, with Richard Roberts putting the visitors two-up within the opening 17 minutes with a neatly taken brace.

James Burgess got the hosts back into the contest after the interval when he reduced the arrears on 49 minutes, but despite controlling possession for long periods they were unable to find a crucial leveller and bowed out of the lucrative cup competition.

Amlwch Town were also on the wrong end of a shock result as they were thrashed 6-0 at home by Vale of Clwyd and Conwy Premier Division title hopefuls Llandudno Amateurs, and Glantraeth exited the competition after a thrilling 6-4 defeat to Penmaenmawr Phoenix.

There was better fortune for Holyhead Town, who had goals from Asa Thomas, Sam Roberts and Anthony Parry to thank for a narrow 3-2 home triumph over Gwynedd League pacesetters Menai Bridge Tigers, with Aaron David Thomas and Jason Banks on target for in-form Nantlle Vale in their comfortable 2-0 victory over Gaerwen.

A spirited effort by Pentraeth against Prestatyn Sports saw them level heading into the closing stages, but a Dave Collins double on 75 and 90 minutes condemned them to a 2-0 reverse on their travels.
