SPORTS reporter Dean Jones brings you his weekly award winners from the Huws Gray Alliance, which saw all teams involved in League Cup action.

Team of the Week: Holyhead Hotspur

The Holy Islanders’ have enjoyed a fine run of form of late, and they produced their fine performance of the campaign to date in their 2-1 success at Huws Gray Cup holders Flint Town United.

Manager Darren Garmey has assembled a high talented squad that now seem to have gelled after a disappointing start, and the addition this week of Marc Evans is another massive boost that is sure to raise expectations even further as the season progresses.

Manager of the Week: Matthew Jones/Dewi Llion (Denbigh Town)

Jones found himself back in familiar surrounding when he took his Denbigh Town side to former club Rhyl, and they showed all their fighting qualities to emerge victorious on their travels and progress to the next stage of the competition.

It has not been an easy start for the management team given all the upheaval regarding last season’s squad, but this would have meant an awful lot to everyone involved and could well be the springboard for bigger and better things in the future.

Player of the Week: Corrig McGonigle (Conwy Borough)

The prolific striker is really making a name for himself after finally getting the chance of a prolonged run at second tier level, and he was at his brilliant best to fire a hat-trick in the Tangerines’ emphatic cup victory over fellow newly promoted side Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochant.

McGonigle’s partnership with Dean Seager continues to develop at a rapid rate, and the former Bangor City Academy star has silenced doubters that questioned whether he could score goals on a consistent basis at this level very early on in the season.

Man in Form: Robbie Parry (Bangor City)

The Citizens’ needed to show their fight and in Parry they had the right quality in the final third to overcome a 3-1 deficit and achieve a 5-3 win over a spirited Gresford Athletic.

The talented forward showed he has the skill and composure to turn a game on its head whenever he sees fit, and manager Craig Harrison will be hoping for more of the same from Parry as he looks to turn around their fortunes in the league.

Team to Watch: Prestatyn Town

With new owners comes a fresh sense of optimism, and they was a marked improvement in the Seasiders’ fortunes during the first game since the three-person consortium took over at the club.

Prolific striker Ian Griffiths has added a much-needed sense of conviction to the Town attack, which was sorely missing during the first few weeks of the season, and Leon Field and Ryan Turner look to be finally getting the very most out of their relatively inexperienced squad as they continue to find their feet at this standard.
