LLANDUDNO manager Iwan Williams has paid tribute to club talisman Danny Hughes ahead of significant milestone for the midfielder.

The long-serving and popular figure is set for his 100th JD Welsh Premier League appearance for the club on Saturday against Connah’s Quay Nomads at the Giant Hospitality Stadium (7.30pm), which is further evidence of the impact Hughes has made during a glittering career in the domestic game.

He also played a huge contributing factor to the success at Rhyl prior to his move to Tudno, where he was the standout performer in the Huws Gray Alliance championship winning campaign and their subsequent third placed debut finish in the top flight.

Hughes was also on the scoresheet in their landmark Europa League tie against Swedish giants IFK Goteborg, and he was awarded the captain’s armband this summer after agreeing a new deal during an off-season of considerable change to playing personnel at the club.

Only Hughes and Toby Jones remain from last season’s squad as Williams looks to improve the club’s fortunes ahead of his first full season at the helm.

Williams, said: “Danny Hughes has been a phenomenal player for Llandudno Football Club and will continue to be for years to come.

“His leadership qualities and will to win always shines through and he deserves every accolade he gets for this achievement.

“To epitomise what Danny’s about, when I called him to let his know about his potential milestone, his reply was “I know, because ever since Llandudno got promoted to the WPL, I made it an ambition of mine to get to 100 starts, so I kept count” – that speaks volumes about Danny Hughes.”
