RHYL director of football Eddie Maurice-Jones could not hide his delight after his side secured a dramatic 3-2 win at Holywell Town.

The Lilywhites left it late to pick a morale-boosting success at Halkyn Road to get their Huws Gray Alliance campaign back on track, and they go in search of a second consecutive win when Holyhead Hotspur visit the Belle Vue Stadium on October 26 (7.30pm).

Maurice-Jones, said: “I think the win was deserved and the first 45 was the best I have seen us play all season. To go one down against the run of play we questioned our mental state but they all dug in and got their rewards.

“We are a team that likes to play forward and create chances and we got that bit of luck but it was about time and you need that now and again.

“We are learning as a group. We have a lot of possession and build play up at times but the concentration might slack so we need to know when we play and if we can cut out those mistakes we feel this squad can go to the heights.

“We did it the hard way but kept battling and I have questioned that which they have answered and hopefully they can go on a bit of a run now as this has changed everything. The fans were outstanding and the lads are still getting used to the size of the fanbase, we are progressing and the results will come.”

The Wellmen opened the scoring on 17 minutes when Steve Lewis marked his return to the club with a goal from the penalty spot after he had been felled in the box, but the Lilies managed to level matters on 41 when Liam Smith’s long-range effort took a deflection into the net.

After the break saw the visitors grab the initiative for the first time when James Murphy rifled in a 25-yard free-kick with 53 on the clock, only for Johnny Haseldin’s side to hit back immediately following the restart when Zebb Edwards took advantage of a defensive error to fire past Rory Crowther.

With the game heading towards a stalemate, defender Ben Nash bundled the ball over the line from close range a minute into injury time to secure a dramatic winner for the away side.
