LLANDUDNO Junction's visit to Amlwch in the Welsh Alliance League on Saturday earned them a win and has put them in good shape for tonight's (Wednesday) Cookson Cup semi final at Holywell.
Junction made hard work in controlling the game on a pitch that cut up badly within the first few minutes but were rewarded for their efforts when Luke O Mahoney's corner was headed home by skipper Simon Kay to give the Railwaymen a 1-0 lead.
With Mike Lundstrum having two efforts cleared off the line and Jake Cassidy having a hatful of chances, Junction did not add to their total until half time when Jake Cassidy scored after good work by John Blundell.
Junction were much better in the second half and further goals from Joel Hewitt, and substitute and Arron Spencer after a fine run from Jake Cassidy got his second near the end.
Cassidy missed out on his hatrick after hitting the upright and the home keeper was found to be in fine form to keep the scoreline down.
Amlwch did have two goals disallowed and also missed a penalty in a game that could of had more goals.
Junction manager Shane Cartwright said: "We didn't have it all our own way, on a really difficult pitch it was difficult to play any kind of decent football, however we managed to score five and keep another clean sheet and now we can look forward to a crucial seven days starting with the semi final."
Junction face Holywell Town on Wednesday with a 7.30pm kick-off and Gap Connah's Quay in the quarter final of the Barritt Cup on Saturday.
