COLWYN Bay bounced back from two defeats in an impressive display away at Trafford on Saturday to reclaim their second spot in the Unibond North One League. Ian Sheridan scoring twice in a 2-1 win.
Bay continued their impressive away form, the best in the league and the major factor in keeping them in the top two for most of the season, returning them to second place above Skelmersdale this time.
The Seagulls will be attempting to serve up the same fare when they returned home to play Warrington Town last night and again on Saturday against promotion rivals Skelmesdale.
Manager Neil Young was able to bring in Jamie Dunn for his first game since October, and he was his lively self, partnered by Neil Black, whose industry will surely soon pay off in goals, with Stuart Graves, Sheridan, Jim Kelly and Greg Stones across midfield.
Danny Grannon came in at left back.
The start to the game was dramatic when in 30 seconds Greg Stones played in Sheridan who beat a defender to shoot well enough for a deflection to take the ball over a despairing goalkeeper Tyrer.
Black was then put clear by Luke Denson but shot wide with the keeper his only obstacle.
Danny Meadowcroft and Dave Challinor playing well within themselves but eventually Bay were hit by Trafford's nippy attack force and Chris Sanna made two superb one-handed saves, leaping salmon like to turn shots from Max Kisseh and Joe Shaw away for corner kicks before being beaten in 44 minutes when Melford Knight volleyed home for 1-1.
That was as near as the home side got to a result as Bay took over after the interval.
Gannon missed a great chance from three yards heading over a Dunn header from a Challinor cross. But, when Trafford failed to clear Greg Stones crossed from the left to the far post for Sheridan to head in for his 12th goal of the season and enhance his growing reputation as a favourite Bay marksman.
The visitors stayed well in control, Black had a fierce angled shot tipped brilliantly over by Tyrer.
Substitute Alex Titchiner was twice denied by Tyrer then the keeper dived to turn a Stones free kick round the post .
But 2-1 it remained when it could have been more.
A delighted Neil Young said: "A number of those players have not played that much football lately and I thought the commitment they put in was tremendous. We had a bad last 10 minutes or so in the first half but when we forced them down the middle they got little joy against Chally and Danny.
"In the end it was a well deserved win and now it is up to us to keep that level of performance going."
