Cymru Alliance League Cup
Llandudno 4 Holyhead Hotspur 2 (after extra time)
LLANDUDNO reached the semi final of the league cup with two extra-time goals ahead of a must win league clash on Saturday.
With a host of players missing from Tudno's starting line-up including captain Craig Hogg, injured defender Neil Coverley and suspended midfielders Joe Morgan and Gareth Hughes, three reserve team players came into the side.
An early header from Chris Saxon gave Holyhead the lead before Llandudno levelled through Gwyn Peters who tapped home from close range after Holyhead keeper Mike Doutch had saved well from Luke Carling and Allan Roberts.
Danny Hughes put the home side ahead just after the 40 minute mark but Holyhead equialised before the break when Saxon scored his second after a Holyhead corner.
In the second half there were chances for both teams to take the lead but neither could find the back of the net and the game finished level.
Just sixty seconds into extra time Carling picked up a Lee Thomas pass and slotted home to give Llandudno the lead.
Lee Thomas put the game out of Holyhead's reach when he scored with eight minutes remaining.
Llandudno co-manager Grant Montgomery said: "It is a good result, considering the team we put out. We had a lot of injuries, suspensions and illnesses. I'm pleased, we had five or six players out.
"It was a tough game, but we deserved to win. The fitness levels came into it. The team dug deep. I'm really pleased with the lads who came in from the reserves."
Llandudno play Glan Conwy at home, tonight (Wednesday), in the NWCFA Challenge Cup quarter-final with a 7.30pm kick-off.
They face Cymru Alliance leaders Llangefni Town away on Saturday in a game which Montgomery called "a must win".
He is hoping to have a full squad to choose from with players coming back from suspensions and recovering from injuries.
