New Brighton 235-3
Colwyn Bay 150-9
Match drawn
Colwyn Bay managed to hold on for an unlikely draw in their rain curtailed Liverpool Competition Premier Division match with New Brighton.
Facing a New Brighton side in hot bowling form, having bowled out third placed Hightown for just 32 last week, Colwyn Bay were up against it from the off, with their opponents batting first to take advantage of the ominous weather reports.
New Brighton’s Louis Botes hit 109 to power his team to a total of 235 for three, with Graeme Cross, Ryan Holtby and P Jenkins taking a wicket each.
After the break, Colwyn Bay started well enough, with Zac Gidlow and Carwen Williams putting on 56 before the youngster was bowled LBW.
Williams’ wicket came two runs later, bringing talisman Will Hantam into play, who reached a half century whilst others around him failed to stick at the crease.
By the time he was dismissed, Colwyn Bay had struggled on to 149-7, some way short of their target with only the tail end of the batting remaining.
With the tie looking beyond them, Ethan Ray and Jenkins both played some fine defensive cricket to eat up the overs, but were both dismissed to leave captain Graeme Jones and Ryan Holtby in charge of the final precious wicket.
Both saw off the remaining three overs to secure a hard fought-for draw, earning important points to keep alive Colwyn Bay’s hopes of a top place in the Premier Division table come the end of the season.
The draw gave the Bay three points and leaves them in fourth position in the table.
