COLWYN BAY moved to within nine points of the Liverpool Competition leaders on a double-winning weekend of cricket.
The Bay are now well on course for a title challenge following their important win against Hightown and the comprehensive victory over Newton-le-Willows.
Saturday’s match saw virtuoso displays from Graeme Cross and Paul Jenkins secure the spoils, regularly taking wickets to restrict their opponents to a low score.
Graeme Cross took the first wicket after 30 runs, claiming an LBW for the first of his five wickets.
Despite a spirited 41 from Shaun Vosloo, Hightown were leaking wickets, and were declared all out for just 122 runs.
Cross took five for 50 from his 12 overs, with Jenkins close behind on four for 36 from 16 overs, ably supported by Ryan Holtby who bowled five maidens and took one wicket from his 11 overs.
After turning around, Colwyn Bay made a slow start, losing Will Hantam for seven whilst fellow opener Zac Gidlow added 17.
The low target never looked a problem for the Bay, however, and Cross’ 44, in partnership with Sion Morris who bagged 33, took the home side within touching distance of their first win of the weekend.
In their second match, Sion Morris’ 78, backed up by a punchy 34 from Darren Rhys and Charlie Clubb’s 25, powered Colwyn Bay to 211 all out.
The Bay’s bowlers blitzed the Newton-le-Willows batting order, with Hantam matching Cross’ efforts from the previous day in taking five wickets.
Jenkins (three for eight) and Holtby (two for six) more than played their part, whilst Zac Gidlow also impressed with a spectacular catch in what was a comprehensive victory.
Colwyn Bay II 139 all out
Fleetwood & Hesketh II 120 all out

A REMARKABLE four wickets for five runs from Nick Woodward helped Colwyn Bay climb into the top half of the Liverpool Competition Seconds First Division with a 19 run victory.
The Bay reached 139 all out in 40.5 overs, but won the low scoring tie after removing their opponents in 36 overs to claim their second successive win.
Ed Parry and Chris Rowley both top scored for Colwyn Bay with 31 runs each.
