LLANDUDNO recorded their first defeat of the season on Saturday, going down by 58 runs to Pontblyddyn.

The away side won the toss and crucially chose to bat first, with captain Duncan Midgley taking the first wicket for 29 runs.

Pont proved resiliant at the crease, however, and resisted the bowling of Jack Rimmington and Gordon Kerr, neither of whom managed their usual haul of wickets.

Llandudno began steadily taking wickets after the third, with Graham Boase and Ajay Dhawan taking two each, as well as Mike Kitchen’s taking debut wicket for the firsts.

However, an eighth wicket partnership worth 55 brought Pontblyddyn back into the match, finishing their innings on 195 for eight from 58 overs.

After the interval, Llandudno suffered an early setback with the dismisal of both opening batsmen for just eleven runs.

Jordan Kane and Sam Rimmington took the score to 40 before the latter departed, with his replacement Elgan Williams also leaving four runs later.

Kane then combined with Gordon Kerr to bring Llandudno’s score up to their usual standard, top scoring with 59 before being caught out.

His departure ushered in a batting collapse, however, with the remaining five wickets falling for 20 runs, leaving Llandudno 58 short of their target.
