COLWYN BAY FC drew their last weekend friendly before the new season, conceding a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw.

The Bay twice took the lead through Ian Sheridan and Karl Noon, but two dead-ball situations cost them as a penalty and a late free kick shared the spoils.

The Seagulls put on a decent performance in the first half, with Ian Sheridan scoring the opener on 32 minutes with an angled shot after cutting in from the right.

Chris Sanna was hardly troubled all night, but had to pick the ball out of the back of the net after Tony Evans was tripped in the box by David Thompson, with Gavin Salmon sending home the resultant spot-kick.

Dave Challinor made seven changes in the second half, with Noon striking to regain the lead on the hour mark after some neat play by Sheridan.

Colwyn Bay looked to be heading towards victory until a Mark Cadwallader foul late in the match allowed Louis Corrigan to fire a free-kick past Sanna.

Speaking after the match, Seagulls chief Challinor said that the set-pieces had cost his side on the day.

"In the end we've been punished for switching off and making sloppy tackles to give away the penalty and the free kick for their two goals," he said.

"We know the new season is going to be a huge challenge for all of us, but everyone is up for that and looking forward to it.”

Colwyn Bay kick off their EvoStik Premier Division campaign this weekend away to North Ferriby United, before Ashton United visit on Tuesday 24 for the club’s first home game.
