Llandudno 13 Northop Hall 0
STEVE TUSTIN smashed in a brilliant double hat trick as Llandudno Hockey Club demolished Northop Hall.
Tustin netted twice in the opening five minutes, followed by goals from penalty corners for Dave Whitfield and Paul Broadhurst, to open up a commanding lead.
Will Hughes scored a superb individual effort to crown a great first half of action, going in 5-0 up at the break.
Llandudno refused to ease off in the second as Hall crumbled, with Tustin bagging four more and Martin Williams, Pete Hoyland and Mikey Pennington all adding to a crushing win.
A great team goal saw Will Hughes smash in a final goal at the back stick to round off a great victory for Tudno, who travel to Chester this Saturday.
IT HAS been confirmed that Llandudno will be the scene of a gruelling 24 hour race.
The seaside town has been chosen as one of sites of the Commonwealth ultra and mountain-running championships, which will take place next year and may feature some of the world's top distance runners.
The opening ceremony will be in Llandudno on September 23 next year and will be followed by the first international race, a 24 hour race which will finish at noon on September 24.
An organiser for the Commonwealth Championships said: “The runners will cover a course between Mostyn Street and West Shore along Gloddaeth Avenue, which will be closed to traffic, and spectators will be able to follow their progress on a giant screen.
“The first ever Commonwealth Championships were held in Keswick in 2009, attracting representatives from 13 nations, we hope that many more will travel to North Wales as it has been scheduled to fit in with other major competitions.”
On Saturday the action moves to Llanberis and the mountain-running championship while on Sunday, 55 kilometre trail race will be held in Newborough Forest on Anglesey.
Steve Brace, head of althetics development for Welsh Athletics said: "There are very few 24-hour races and they are fascinating to watch.
"The top runners do the equivalent of eight consecutive sub-three-hour marathons, running through the night, and it is a mental as well as physical challenge."
The prestigious three-day meeting is being organised by Welsh Athletics in partnership with Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey Councils and the Commonwealth Games Council for Wales.
The official launch of the championships is expected to be held early in the New Year.
