Llanrwst United 2 Glan Conwy 1
GLAN CONWY start 2011 in seventh place in the Welsh Alliance table following a 2-1 defeat at Llanrwst United.
The Rwsters leapfrogged Glan into sixth thanks to Harry Roberts’ winner midway through the first half, with the Cae Ffwt men one of three clubs mid-table with 18 points.
A penalty five minutes from half time gave the home team the advantage, with Rhys Davies converting for a 1-0 lead.
But just two minutes later Tom Rooney struck to restore parity, finishing a surging run from the back with an effort that left the Llanrwst keeper stranded.
Things turned sour on the stroke of half time, however, when a bad challenge saw players from both sides get involved in an altercation, with Llanrwst’s Gavin Jones red carded for raising his hands.
The ten men rallied in the second half, and regained the lead ten minutes into the half when Harry Roberts fired in a rebound after GC keeper Arron Peel saved well from Adam Jones.
Glan continued to put pressure on their opponents but failed to find the breakthrough, and things went from bad to worse in injury time when Peel was also dismissed after bringing down Llanrwst sub Edward Davies outside the area.
