Junior Rugby

Nant Conwy Under 9s picked up a brace of wins over Ruthin at the weekend.
In their first match, the junior Nant squad picked up a 5-0 win, with Deian Roberts scoring twice along with tries for Angus Youngson, Owen Ellis and Carwyn Williams.

In the second game, Nant were again triumphant, with Tomos Land (2) and Gruffydd Evans scoring in a 3-0 win.

The Under 14s, meanwhile, came out on top in a high scoring clash with Bala, winning 40-24.

Gethin Sion and Sion Roberts both bagged a brace, whilst Iestyn Thomas and Arthur Lennon also crossed the line to rack up six tries, whilst Emyr Court (3) and Roberts (2) also added conversions to complete the rout.

Llandudno Rugby Club Under 13s made the trip to Whitchurch on Sunday to take on one of Shropshire's best teams.

Iwan Kyffin broke up their attack with an excellent steal at the breakdown, Sam Merrick moved it wide and Isaac Williams scored in the corner.

Morgan Owen then added two fine tries, followed by two strong tries from Sam Hughes before Morgan Owen ended the game with his hatrick try, converted by Neo Parkies. Players of the match were Morgan Owen and Isaac Williams.

Llandudno Table Tennis League

In the first division Police A remain unbeaten are now up to second after arguably their strongest line up blew away Denbigh A 10-0. Only one match made a fifth game decider and Roger Lee used his experience to beat Sean Lucas and prevent Denbigh from scoring.

Y Morfa C had another busy week completing two fixtures and winning both. The narrow win over Craig-y-don A turned when Y Morfa’s Colin McEvoy and Andy Horton both edged past Graham Heath in tight five game matches. The win over Amlwch B was more comfortable but Amlwch’s super veteran Don Hobbs continues in a fine vein of form. This week Don beat Colin, Andy and Rob Stanway to secure his maximum.

Llandudno Junction consolidated their top half position with an emphatic win over Craig-y-don A. Steve Nicholls secured his maximum without dropping a game and Jim Paton chipped in with his second maximum of the season.
In the second division the top four teams played each other but it is still unclear who is going to win the league.

The current top two teams Craig-y-don B and Glan Clwyd Hospital shared the points. Ady Waugh put the home team in a strong position by winning all his singles and teaming up with George Mynott to land the doubles in the fifth game. The Hospital fought back with both Ken Moore and Clive Sparkes beating George in the fifth to secure the draw and remain in the title race.

Police B remain unbeaten after a fantastic 8-2 win over Denbigh B although this was a very tense encounter. Denbigh’s Chloe Edwards returning from injury was chopped and defended out of a game by Alan Lavery, from a winning position in the fifth. Kath Banks gained revenge by beating Alan 11-9 also in a fifth game. Peter Roberts steadied the ship and maintained his unbeaten record although he also needed five games to thwart Roger Rowett. Bob Lissaman secured his third maximum of the season and the Police seem the strongest team in the league.

However they find themselves in third after fielding a two-man team twice in the first half of the season.

Clifton Glass Snooker League

Crosville B  4 Cricket A 2

Loz Evans of Crosville B recorded a memorable win  over the reigning league champions in the Clifton Glass Thursday Snooker League this week.

Chris Lloyd played very well and dethroned Ross Jones off the top of the league averages. The famously named new signing Stevie Wonder had a close frame with Mark Parry but just shaded the safety battle on the colours taking green to pink to win.

Terry Hillary and Mike Lundstram both won close frames also and the reliable Loz Evans piped in with a win again before Dyfrig Thomas boxed clever in his match and carried off another good win.

Llan Cons A 5 Crosville A 1

Richard Chance of Llan Cons A gave their league prospects a chance by beating 2nd placed Crosville A by the large margin of 5-1. Early on Brian Mercer held off a late charge from Dave Philips to give Crosville A a good start with a point on the board but it was all downhill for them after that.

Llan Cons A captain Stuart Chadwick won comfortably, winning an excellent safety battle leaving Chris Black floored. Dave Hughes had a very close game with Bobby Shields until a devastating burst of potting, including a nice 25 break, by Dave opened an unassailable lead.

John Hancock then quickly went 40 up on Joss Evans and held on to win. Paul Thomas found his form again to beat Richard Chance and Phil Hughes completed the rout with a steady display which was bad news for his opponent Paul Evans.

Other results: Legion B 3 Llan Cons B 3; Cricket Club B 5 Legion A 1.

Dyffryn Boxing Club held a successful night of boxing with some good wins for local fighters.

Nathan Keelly aged 12 of Colwyn Bay boxed C.Dymond of Wrexham and gained revenge for an earlier season defeat with a good display of boxing and aggression to win a close majority decision.

15 year old James Leary produced the best boxing of his career to thoroughly outbox Lewis Broad of Warrington, dropping his opponent heavily in the first round.

James had previously lost to this opponent and boxed well to win the ‘Best Boxer of the Evening’ Award.
