Mal Gorton, making one of his few appearance for Colwyn Bay's first eleven provided one of the few batting bright spots for the Rhos on Sea side away to Northern in the Liverpool Comp Premiership on Saturday when he scored 51 runs in his side's away defeat.
The result was disappointing in that still without key players including Indian pace man Debesis Mohanty Bay lost by 58 runs after working hard to dismiss the home side for a labouriously made 183 in 66.5 overs with Paul Jenkins taking four for 51 and Sion Morris three for nine the outstanding bowling only to lose their third game out of four.
16 year old Ryan Holby for the second week running impressed as second highest scorer to Gorton with an unbeaten 19. The bowling yielded Bay five points and their batting just 1 with the 16 bonus points and five for an abandoned game making for a useful total 21 points at the end of Saturday''s game.
Colwyn Bay lost to Ormskirk by 84 runs on Monday.
A heavily depleted Colwyn Bay's first eleven struggled to find enough form to match an inform Liverpool table topping team Ormskirk at home on May Bank Holiday Monday and went down by 84 runs.
Ormskirk won the toss and batted and after a steady start J Simpson 77 and Mick Farrel, 63 took over and were instrumental in allowing the visitors to declare at 220 for seven with skipper Paul Jenkins taking the bowling honours with four wickets in a long stint for 89 runs. Ryan Holtby 1 for 34 and Sion Morris 2 for 38.
A bright 23 for Dave Taylor was the best of the upper order batsman with Charlie Clubb making 15 and Ryan Holby 12 with Jenkins again proved the value of agression as he came in at 81 to score 38 and with Chris Rowley 22, put on 51 for the ninth wicket but were all out for 146 taking three bowling and one batting point.
Colwyn Bay are away to Southport and Birkdale Saturday with the return of Indian pace bowler Debasis Mohanty and other regular first team members. Southport are third in the Liverpool Comp and the fixture means that Bay will have played the top four league clubs ... it can only then get better for Paul Jenkins and his teammates!
Colwyn Bay seconds beat Fleetwood and Hesketh by seven WCKTS
Skipper Dave Wallace and Glyn Gibbons led the way to a stupendous seconds first victory of the season on Saturday when they put on 166 for the second wicket against Fleetwood Hesketh and a seven wicket triumph.
Wallace made 104 not out and was on the pitch throughout and Gibbons 52 after coming together at the loss of the first wicket for 32 and with stern defence and an increasing momentum used up most of their not inconsiderable experience to overtake the Fleetwood 202 for 7 declared with Bay using just 43.5 overs.
In fading light the drama was magnified when Gibbons was out with just five balls to bowl and Andy Puddle was given out LBW so that when Simon Roscoe, who had injured a finger in an attempted catch, came in to bat it was 196 with seven runs needed from three balls and Roscoe was facing and hitting two off the first ball and then lashing his second high and handsome for six!
Fleetwood's 202 for seven was made with some ease with the Bay's bowling and fielding leaving something to be desired and Wallace had some difficulty trying to slow the scoring down. Gibbons had two hefty bowling spells to make a long time on the pitch. Alex Walburn was the most successful bowler with 3 for 24.
