FOOTBALL:Llandudno's chance of a trophy
LLANDUDNO have one last chance of silverware this season when they face Flint in the Coast Cup.
This was a season which started off in fine style, and remained that way for some time, as Llandudno Football Club continually occupied second place in the Cymru Alliance league table from August until as late as April when 28 of the 32 games had been played.
Of this 28 they had only lost five and were firing (usually) on all cylinders.
At this time it was thought that Tudno would have a realistic chance of promotion as their ground criteria had passed the Welsh Premier inspection and it was also thought that Prestatyn, the run away leaders since day one, would not have the criteria provisions in place.
The promotion contender has to finish in first or second place.
Prestatyn Town have moved heaven and earth in recent days to improve their ground and it looks as if promotion is theirs.
On the field they have been outstanding and thoroughly deserve promotion.
But what happened to Llandudno? Disaster, out of a possible 12 points to be gained from their last four games they got just one.
Shades of last season, when after a reasonable campaign they lost their last six consecutive games.
Cup matches seem to bring out the best from Llandudno and in the Welsh Cup they actually beat Prestatyn away, one of the few teams to do so, with a fine performance and held NEWI Cefn Druids, from the Welsh Premier, to a draw at full time, again with a splendid performance, only to go out to the solitary goal scored in extra time.
In the Coast Cup they dispatched Bangor City away in fine style and demolished Bethesda in the next round.
They meet Flint Town United in the final on Saturday May 10 at Conwy United (2.30pm kick off).
A week ago Llandudno Reserves played at home tough opponents in Greenfield of the first division of the Clwyd League in a round four fixture of the President's Cup and had to field a reduced strength team as two players were cup-tied and three injured.
The outcome was an outstanding and thrilling game seen by a large crowd and Greenfield opened the scoring after ten minutes when a silly penalty was conceded by Llandudno.
Tudno's goal was a brilliant solo effort by Alun Roberts who took the ball up out of his own half but Greenfield scored the winner (1 - 2) with the last kick of the game.
