THE young men of Colwyn Bay and Nant Conwy played each other to a standstill in their Scottish Power North Wales Cup semi final before Bay ran out winners by 12 points to 3 and go on to meet Ruthin on May 17 in the final.

Attacking rugby was played from start to finish at great pace with individuals taking second place to the team work required by both sides as they took each other on in numbers either in attack or the defence.
The deciding factor in this game was the way the Bay absorbed Nant's running rugby and hit back to win.
Crunching tackle followed crunching tackle as mostly Nant were stopped in full flow by Bay's backs and forwards combining to hold out while both sets of forwards locked horns in rucks, mauls and drives with Nant starting the better but not able to breach the Bay defence.
Bay did break through after being in their own half for the first 15 minutes before a break on the right for their pack to maul their way forward and from close in coach Mark Earl crashed over and Gareth Wyn converted for 7-nil.
Nant only increased their dominance but the penalty it produced was missed before they did get on the scoreboard with a Sion Thomas penalty.
Nant resumed on the attack after the break varying passing along the back with kicks to the corner to no avail while the fierce nature of combat lead to dropped balls on both sides from good positions before fly half Ashley James with some space hit a soccer like dropped goal that just cleared the crossbar for 10-3.
Nant who failed also to convert a couple more penalties hit back by pinning Bay on their own line but they could not find a way of grounding the ball although pressing and crossing the Bay line and it was Bay who found the final score when Gareth Wynne scored from a penalty and try as they may Nant failed to make anything of the time left to them.
The NWC Final will take place on May 26 against Ruthin at Mold.
