COLWYN Bay significantly boosted their Evo-stik North playoff chances with a superb 2-0 victory at high-flying Scarborough Athletic.

The Seagulls are now four points off sixth-placed Trafford, but they also have four games in hand on their rivals in a race that is set to go down to the wire.

Alan Morgan’s side face another busy week as they travel to Colne on Tuesday night (7.45pm), who lie in tenth, before hosting Skelmersdale United on Saturday (3pm).

The Bay boss, said: “When I called the lads in after the warm-up I said for them to decide if they wanted to go with the wind or against it first half.

“I wanted them to be involved and make a decision amongst themselves and they chose as a group to face the elements first half, and I thought they defended superbly to give us a great platform for the second half.

“We had a little bit of luck, but generally I thought our defending was top drawer. We’ve then scored two great goals. What a finish by Jack Hindle right into the top corner, and Elliot (Rokka) has shown great composure to score his goal.

After defending resolutely in the first half coupled with some fantastic saves from Matt Cooper, Bay took the lead on 53 minutes when Rokka produced a stunning lofted efforts into the net after good work from Hindle and Tom McCready.

Things got even better for the visitors on 73 minutes when Hindle went from provider to scorer after latching on to an Astley Mulholland through ball and slotting home.

One disappointing aspect to the contest was a serious injury suffered by defender Gaz Grant, who was forced off at half-time with a suspected fracture to his foot.

“Sadly I think it may be big thing with the injury. We’ll have to see how he is, but I thought Kyle (Jacobs) was outstanding when he played in the middle second half and with Billy Sass-Davies still away with Wales, I’d have no hesitation in playing him there again if need be,” added Morgan.
