COLWYN Bay moved to within four points of the Evo-stik North playoff places with a 2-1 win at Ramsbottom United.

The Seagulls are now seventh after two goals in three minutes gave them a crucial victory on their travels, and Alan Morgan’s side will look to take this positive momentum into Saturday’s trip to Glossop North End (3pm).

Morgan, said: “It wasn’t pretty; in fact, it was a pretty awful game to be honest, but its three points and moves us up the table.

“Colne dropping points was a bonus, but I’m not looking at what other teams do. It’s all about us and what we do.”

Barnes had to come off in the second half with a tight hamstring, but Josh Brizell came on and did well as his replacement.

“I’m hoping its just fatigue with Louis after all the games we’ve had and it’s not a pull,” added the Bay boss.

“We’ll see how he is in a couple of days, but we’ve got Josh who did well when he came on and we’ve also got Daws (Liam Dawson missed this game due to work) so we’ve got cover.”

The home side began well and took the lead after just four minutes when a long-range effort from Jamie Rother looped over visiting custodian Matt Cooper to put United ahead.

This provoked a strong response from the promotion chasers, who levelled matters on 27 minutes when Danny Bartle’s deflected effort from a Jack Hindle delivery found its way into the net.

Things got even better moments later when defender Gaz Grant prodded home from close range to put the away side ahead, and they managed to see out the remainder of the game without further incident to seal a notable success.

Their playoff hopes with given another boost with the news that rivals Colne were held 1-1 at home by Mossley.
