COLWYN Bay moved to within one point of the Evo-stik North playoffs with a narrow 1-0 win over Ossett Town.

The Seagulls were made to work hard for another crucial three points that sees them occupy seventh spot ahead of their trip to league leaders South Shields on Saturday (3pm).

Manager Alan Morgan, said: “The lads have put in a big shift over the last few days, playing Thursday and Saturday and tonight, so it is understandable that they tired towards the end. But we’ve got three days’ rest now before we go again on Saturday at South Shields.”

“Hopefully we’ll be back to something like full strength for the weekend, with Sam Barnes, Gaz Grant and Louis Barnes all available again, so I need decide what I’m going to do (in terms of team selection).”

The only goal of the came arrived after 24 minutes when top scorer Astley Mulholland continued his excellent recent form with a headed effort from a corner to break the deadlock.

Visiting stopper had to be at his best to deny Danny Andrews and Danny Bartle soon after, while midfielder Tom McCready also went close with a free-kick.

At the other end, Matt Cooper produced a stunning one-on-one save to deny Alex Peterson after he was put through on goal just before the break.

Following the interval Bay almost doubled their advantage when a Will Booth free-kick was brilliantly diverted by Overton, but the home side managed to hold on for a crucial victory despite tiring in the closing stages after playing their third fixture in the space of six days.

Morgan’s side face another stern test of their credentials against title favourites Shield on Saturday, who are four points ahead of Hyde United at the summit with a game in hand.
