PROMOTION chasing Llanrwst began their pursuit of the North Wales Cricket League Division One title with a 47-run victory at Mold.

Despite losing opener Jospeh Guy early on when he was skittled by Richard Crane for one, the Rwsters started managed to post a formidable total thanks in no small part to the knock of Trefor Williams, who was a mainstay throughout the innings before he was caught off a Kyran van der Krooij delivery on 91.

He was aided at the other end of the crease by Nathan Jones (24), Aron Hughes (29), Aled Hughes and Jack Hughes (26*), who all posted double-figure scores as they ended their 50 overs on 213-6.

Richard Crane and van der Krooij were the pick of the home bowlers, with both taking two wickets apiece for the combined loss of 58 runs.

Jones wasted no time in making an impact with the ball by disposing of openers Crane (33) and Usman Butt, with Jack Hughes also impressing early on by removing Duane Williams (1) and top scorer John Crane (41) on his way to figures of 2-34 off nine overs.

This proved to be crucial in their success as no other Mold batsman made it into the 30-run mark, with Jones taking two more wickets to end a superb ten-over spell on 4-41.

Hughes and Williams also picked up a brace apiece to decimate the lower order, which left the hosts short of their target after managing 166 all out from 44 overs at the crease.

The fancied side will look to strike an early blow on championship rivals Bethesda when they visit their rivals on Saturday.
