LLANDUDNO notched their first win of the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division season with a five-wicket home success over Brymbo.

Jack Rimmington’s side turned in a much-improved display to bounce back from their opening day defeat at St Asaph in fine style, and they travel to Gresford on Saturday looking to make it two wins in succession.

The home side made a strong start in the field when Tom Thornton disposed of Mohamed Jayman and Conner Davies for 12 and a duck, while skipper James Claybrook made just 17 before he was caught off a Rimmington delivery.

All-rounder Danial Evans got in on the act by sending Daniel Parry (6) and wicketkeeper Greg King (0) back to the pavilion, and Thornton helped himself to two more wickets in the form of Matty Turner (10) and Rasaratnam Shahjahan (0) on his way to impressive figures of 4-16 from ten overs.

Joss Roberts proved to be a more stubborn proposition to remove from the crease and finished the innings unbeaten on 36 from 102 deliveries, and Gareth Boys was ousted by Rimmington (2-31) on 34 as the visitors set a target of 129 all out.

Things did not begin well for the hosts as they lost opener Matthew Jones for a duck when he was skittled by Ben Roberts, while overseas star Keegan Armstrong was run out after contributing four.

Sam Rimmington’s poor start continued when he was trapped lbw by Parry for a duck, with Alex Owen also out quickly to a Jayman delivery on 15.

The one constant throughout was Evans, who produced a number of eye-catching strokes to turn the game on its head and end the game unbeaten on 59.

He was ably assisted at the other end by Kevin James, who contributed a patient 38 from 53 balls as they reached their required total for the loss of five wickets after 38 overs.
