ANOTHER batting collapse resulted in Colwyn Bay opening their Liverpool and District Cricket League Premier Division home fixtures with a 48-run loss to Wallasey.

Sion Morris’ side were all out for 49 and have now accumulated just 106 runs from their opening two games of the season, something they will hoping to rectify during their trip to Rainhill on Saturday.

Bay seamer Ryan Holtby wasted no time in making an impact when he took the prized wickets of Jack Leckey and Alex Eagles for two and a duck, while Adam Campion managed to remove skipper Daniel Beaver after he made a promising 37.

He also managed to dispose of Matthew Wilcox (6) and Andrew Ward (4) on his way to figures of 3-12 from seven over, with veteran spinner Paul Jenkins also turning on the style during a brilliant 11 over spell.

The former skipper dismissed Chris Davies (36), Josh Rylance (0), Neil Cross (0) and Andrew Beaver (2) on his way to 4-23 as the away side set a modest target of 97 all out from their time at the crease.

The hosts had no answer to opening bowler Matty Keogh in the opening exchanges, with the bowler taking out Zak Gidlow (6), Dineth Hewathanthree (9) and George Johansen (0) in quick succession, before seeing off Morris for 19 to end a superb spell on 4-23.

Matthew Wilcox also had a huge say at the other end, removing Mike Littler, Adam Campion and Will Higginson for three ducks apiece, and he also sent Jenkins (5), Holtby (4) and Gareth Goodson (0) back to the pavilion to finish with six wickets for the loss of just 20 runs to condemn Bay to their second straight league defeat to open the top flight campaign.

There was better fortune for Bay’s second unit, who secured a 45-run win at Maghull thanks to a five wicket haul from James Jones.
