A CENTURY from skipper Rajjenu Britto did not prevent Conwy from falling to a narrow eight-run loss at Mold.

The North Wales Cricket League Division One side struggled early on thanks to the outstanding opening partnership of Richard Crane and Isaac Allen, who put the home side in command with knocks of 88 and 71 before they were both out at the hands of Stan Senior.

The same bowler also disposed of Wes Gillam (19) and captain John Crane (2) to keep his side in the contest, and he managed to secure his five wicket haul after taking out Richard Deniz (15) and Jamie Ryle on his way to exceptional figures of 6-59 from ten overs.

Graham Meredith also got in on the act when he trapped wicketkeeper George Deniz lbw on 15 as the home side finished their 50 overs on 228-7.

Things did not begin well for the visitors when they lost Philip Davies (6) and Evan Williams (13) in quick succession, but the partnership between Britto and Jonathan Davies put on 104 for the third wicket to give them a fighting chance of salvaging something from the game.

Davies hit seven boundaries on his way to 58 off 56 deliveries, while Britto went even better before he was run out at a critical time in the contest after scoring 113.

This proved to be the turning point as only Lewis Jones and Llewelyn Cowell (both 10) made it into double figures as they fell to 220-9 from their 50 overs in reply.
