MOCHDRE picked up their first win of the North Wales Cricket League Division One season with a four-wicket home triumph over rivals Llanrwst.

The Rwsters made an encouraging start to their time at the crease thanks to the opening stand of skipper Aron Hughes and wicketkeeper Joseph Guy, who made 28 and 30 before thery were both despatched by Lee Jackson.

Veteran Nathan Jones was dismissed for a duck at the hands of Stewart Williams, while Aled Hughes (30) and Huw Williams (26) produced a valuable contribution from the middle order.

That was as good as it got for the away side, who collapsed thanks to the impressive tandem of Kyle Brown (2-29) and Scott Brown (3-2) as they posted a target of 140 all out from 40 overs at the crease.

Home openers James French (17) and Stewart Williams were both ousted by Jones early on, but a stunning knock from Matty Humphreys turned the game on its head as he finished the day unbeaten on 54.

This proved to be the difference between the two sides, with Gareth Davies also aiding his side’s fortunes with 23 as they reached their target for the loss of six wickets in reply.

Humphreys’ side were unable to replicate this in their Welsh Cup clash at Denbigh, where they fell to a 95-run defeat thanks to a knock of 45 not out from Sam Lewis.

Mochdre are next in action on May 26 when they visit Dolgellau, while Llanrwst welcome Conwy on the same date.
