A POOR batting display condemned Conwy to an 88-run defeat at in-form Bersham.

The home side made a strong start with outstanding knocks from skipper Rishan Fernando (64) and Nuwan Amarakoon (43), while wicketkeeper Phillip Young was caught off a Rajjenu Britto delivery on 33.

Stan Senior and Graham Meredith both helped themselves to a pair of wickets apiece for the combined loss of 83 runs, while Patrick Jelley also picked up a brace at the expense of 62 as the hosts were all out after setting a modest target of 184.

Britto’s side were unable to replicate their strong performance in the field with the bat, with just four players making it into double figures on a difficult afternoon at the crease.

One encouraging aspect was the knock of 29 from Ed Favill, with Allan Senior (13), Graham Heath (14) and George Latham (14) all failing to build on promising starts as the mustered just 96 all out in reply.

Nilanka De Silva was the pick of the home bowling attack, helping himself to four wickets for the loss of just 17 runs, while Randheer Bandara finished with figures of 2-24 off eight overs.
