MOCHDRE followed up their weekend win with a six-wicket home victory over Pontblyddyn on Bank Holiday Monday.

The North Wales Cricket League Division One promotion hopefuls have now won three consecutive contests and currently sit in third spot and five points off the summit ahead of their trip to Abergele on Saturday.

The home side made an impressive start in the field when skipper Matty Humphreys clean bowled James Griffiths for six, while fellow opener Ben Mason was run out by Kyle Bron after contributing just 11.

A strong partnership from Glenn Chambers and Lewis Davies put on 81 for the third wicket, securing scores of 70 and 38 respectively before they were both ousted by Humphreys.

Wicketkeeper George Forgrave became Humphreys’ latest victim when he was despatched for a duck to give the all-rounder figures of 4-38, and Brown removed David Foulkes for 38 as the visitors set a target of 188-7 from their 50 overs at the crease.

The home run chase got off to a good start with superb knocks from Stewart Williams and James French, who made 63 and 25 before they were both sent to the pavilion by Ben Mason.

This was followed up by valuable double-digit scores from Humphreys (22) and Mike Humphreys (23*), with Adam Buckley ending the innings unbeaten on 33 to get the hosts over the line with minimal fuss for the loss of four wickets with nine balls to spare.
